Looking for a fun day at the beach while supporting a worthy local cause? Then don't miss out the 14th annual Beachfest and Bodyboard & Surf Competition, presented by the Paia Youth and Cultural Center (PYCC) on Saturday, December 11. From humble beginnings, the annual event has become a very popular outing for residents and visitors alike. According to coordinators, the event has drawn more than 100 competitors and 400 spectators, for what many consider to be a highlight in the Maui calendar. And thanks to the support of an array of local sponsors, contestants and spectators will have the chance to win many great prizes.
For over 17 years, the PYCC has been working hard to serve the community by building a strong foundation for Maui's youth, by furthering the Hawaiian cultures and traditions, while embracing the Aloha Spirit. PYCC's mission is "to provide a safe place emotionally and physically for the youth of Paia and surrounding communities which offers a variety of social, educational, cultural, vocational, and recreational activities".
